Pretending to shovel

I decided to break down and start blogging. Guess I'm a few years behind on our life events, but I'll catch ya'll up to speed. Michael and I both graduated from Auburn in May 2006. In July 2006, Michael asked me to marry him at Simmons Middle School where we had first met back in 1998. In August 2006, Michael moved to Boston to attend Harvard Medical School. I stayed around in Birmingham to work and plan the wedding. On July 21st, 2007, Michael and I were married at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. After an amazing week in Jamaica, we packed up our stuff and headed to the great Northeast. We drove for 2 days, total of about 19 hours and finally made it to Massachusetts. We live in Brookline in a neighborhood called Coolidge Corner & we absolutely love it! Michael and I had about a week or so together, then Michael's second year of med school started. At this point, I had no job and didn't know anyone, but somehow managed to fill my days. Whether that be cleaning our apartment (which was always spotless because of this!), walking around Coolidge Corner, or calling friends, my days flew by. Being a newlywed was so much fun, always cooking and cleaning/playing with our new wedding presents. And let's be honest, I didn't have much else to do around here! After about a month or so of this, I found a job...yay! I began working in September for a private student loan company in their HR dept. This was a great experience and I met a lot of great people. Needless to say, in this economy, student loans weren't doing so hot, and things started to slow down a bit. I could sense that my job was slowly coming to an end, so I decided to start searching for a new job. I was very fortunate to find the perfect HR job in sports. I have now been with the same company since May 2008 and still love it everyday. Michael is now in his 4th and last year of med school (time flies!) so things are winding down in the great state of Massachusetts. But we have had some unforgettable adventures up here in Boston. I've attached some pictures of our fun excursions in Boston including snow, apple-picking, hockey games, ice skating, and more! We have also been lucky enough to take some great trips in New England including Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Maine! We also took some trips to New York, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, and of course back home to Alabama! We were also so fortunate to have many wonderful visitors, both friends and family brave the cold and come see us in Boston!
We are so excited to share our stories with everyone! I wish I would have started this blog when we moved to Boston as so many exciting things have happened to both of us. But going forward, I will keep everyone up to date on the Smith family in Boston! The next few months are both nerve-racking and exciting. Michael is now officially in the interview process for residency programs. He is going into Orthopedic Surgery. I am so proud of him and all of his amazing accomplishments he has had in med school. So far, he has interviews in MA, TN, GA, AL, LA, TX, MD, MO, DC, CT...the list is long! But we still have a long road ahead of us! Stay tuned!
